Maadi used to be a place for the wealthy people because of the nile and everyone wanted be part of it especially in Nasser-Mubark era and that caused some of those areas in the Outskirts with unfinished walls. About the tall buildings I think that's because of the nile view, The price of an aparment that face the nile will always skyrocket.

Four Seasons is the best in Egypt. Anywhere you go, if they have a Four Seasons, stay there. Let me tell you about the Four Seasons in Cairo. One of our group fell ill. My friend called down to the desk for some cold medicine. They sent a doctor. He gave them an exam a steroid shot, antibiotics, and other medications. I think the bill came to around $150. Crazy.

May I recommend renaming Ras Muhammad Nature Reserve to The Mohamed Al-Fayed Memorial Shark Farm? Once leaving our hotel we were taken by bus past a thirty foot "Peace Wall" (Thirty foot concrete monstrosity there to keep the rape-hungry jihadists away from our cocktails) to a flea bitten port where we were herded like cattle onto a boat of Somali pirates for our snorkelling expedition. We arrived at a nondescript bit of ocean where dozens of boats set anchor like a maritime dogging spot and every wanker in Europe threw themselves into the oily polluted water. It was like that bit from Titanic where they're all screaming and panicking, it was impossible to swim in all that congestion and I nearly drowned. We were then taken to White Island which the locals referred to as “Whore Island” given the obscene amount of bikini clad, Instagram drunk narcissists getting their norks out on a strip of sand the size of my back garden. I nearly drowned just swimming to it and decided to return to the boat and hope to watch one of the dozens of shark attacks that keep getting brushed under the rug by the Ministry of Tourism before being offered a plate of Salmonella. Several times I considered commandeering the vessel to save us from being sold at market in Eritrea. There was a shockingly limit amount of drinks to be consumed which got hoarded by a greasy Italian kid and his mother who took 673 selfies and subsequently had to be fed to a tiger shark to ease my constipation. Nobody go to Sharm it is nothing as depicted in any of these tour videos.
